“Real Treasures”

Dedication: Dad & Mom - This poem is a THANK YOU expressing the gratitude of your three girls who are truly grateful to have precious memories and new blessings each day – real treasures - because you each taught us to enjoy the simple things in life & to be grateful for all we have!!! We Love You Dearly!!!

There once were three sisters, inseparable some say,
They had so much fun each & every day!

Fluttering & chirping – busy chickadees each one –
Hanging on the swing set, enjoying the sun;

Making mud pies by the “big” dirt heap –
Digging for gold nuggets, spray-painted by Mom – so neat!

On the old tree stump was where they liked to sit,
By Miss Golden’s fence – their imaginations were lit.

Over the barbed-wire fence they would go – but watch where you step!
For Gracie’s yard is where cows made their home!

Down the Cumberland Springs Road for a candy treat -
Trips to Boyd’s Groceries, with a miniature collie at their feet.

Home again, in the backyard lot, treasure hunters they became;
Finger polish X’s marking the spot.

Then came one Sunday when a "comic"al map
Led these three out of theyard, & they forgot their naps!

This bit of newspaper is where they laid the blame
As they trekked thru the forest - What an adventure it became!

Around each tree, something new they found -
Beaming with smiles at each new sound.

Then what a surprise! - A bubbling brook - waterfalls & all!
Who need chlorine?! - when nature has it all!

The cool waters were sublime, and the afternoon soon spent -
They decided to head home so off they went.

Upon their return, with frowns they were met -
Mommy & Daddy, missing their girls, were all a fret!

Punishments were given, but this soon forgotten -
Thru the woods to the creek, they disappeared often.

At each fun-filled day’s end, they always withdrew –
To their shared bedroom, as sleepy they grew.

They snuggled together – what a cute brood!
“Comfy & Cozy are we”, as Dad would say -
These three giggled & whispered, much to a patient Mom’s dismay.

With each new morning, these three brown-haired girls gradually grew
Into three young ladies – what a busy crew!

Their lives have now changed with blessings all kinds,
But it doesn’t take much for their hearts to rewind;

For when the air is just right, they can truly smell
The scents of rare memories, & their hearts do swell!!!

So as you read this poem & in your soul a rings a bell,
Remember true life is an endless well –
For blessings aren’t counted in silver or gold,
But in the colors of simple pleasures – bright & bold!!
